Job Family Group:
Provides experienced legal advice and support for BMO Financial Group’s strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and strategic alliances. A member of the BMO Wealth Management Legal team, this role will work with legal teams supporting all of BMO Financial Group’s businesses. Provides legal advice and support based on knowledge of M&A best practices, legal principles and the financial services industry. Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives. Works to achieve organizational goals while minimizing legal risk.
Provides legal advice and support for strategic transactions based on knowledge of M&A best practices, legal principles and the financial services industry.
Leads and/or supports legal due diligence, transaction structuring, contract negotiation, closing preparations and post-closing matters.
Collaborates with other members of BMO’s Legal & Regulatory Compliance Group.
Manages external counsel.
Acts as a subject matter expert on strategic transactions, including monitoring legal, regulatory and market developments and supporting our knowledge management.
Resolves routine issues and/or escalates with appropriate analysis and/or recommendations.
Identifies legal risks and implements appropriate actions to mitigate them.
Builds effective relationships with internal/ external stakeholders.
Geographic scope: up to global.
Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Up to 6+ years of legal practice or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Degree in law (LLB or JD) and license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction.
Private practice or in-house experience in strategic transactions.
Deep knowledge of strategic transaction deal management and negotiation.
Knowledge of business and regulatory environment in which BMO Financial Group operates.
Proficient legal skills and knowledge, including in the areas of strategic transactions, corporate law and securities law
