About this opportunity:

The Legal Counsel, Litigation & Employment will be responsible to assist in effectively managing the Company's litigation matters. They will oversee the conduct of litigation matters through to resolution. They will be required to work collaboratively with other legal subject matter experts, clients, stakeholders across the organization to identify and mitigate legal risks and guide creative solutions in alignment with Cenovus's corporate objectives.

What you'll do:

  • Oversee the conduct of Canadian litigation matters through to resolution.

  • Take a lead role in dispute management from a solutions-oriented, practical, and strategic perspective.

  • Provide legal advice and support, conduct legal research, and draft and review legal documents, largely related to litigation matters.

  • Manage external counsel on litigation files and related matters.

  • Represent the Company at hearings and other judicial proceedings.

  • Work collaboratively with teams, leaders and key stakeholders across the organization to identify and mitigate legal risks and guide creative solutions in alignment with Cenovus's corporate objectives.

  • Engage with business leaders and other in-house teams to efficiently mitigate legal risks and resolve issues pragmatically.

  • Other related legal accountabilities that may arise, including providing legal support to our in-house employment legal team in Canada.

Who you are:

  • J.D. or LL.B. from an accredited Canadian law school.

  • Member in good standing with the Alberta Law Society.

  • Four (4) to six (6) years post-call litigation experience, with some experience handling employment law matters.

  • Strong analytical, communication and drafting skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and teamwork.

  • Energy industry experience preferred.
