The Ministry of the Attorney General, Crown Law Office – Civil, requires two (2) senior counsel with significant civil litigation experience.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will be primarily working on litigation matters involving the aboriginal and treaty rights of Indigenous Peoples and will represent the Crown in Right of Ontario, the Ministry of the Attorney General, other ministries, agencies, boards and tribunals in actions, applications, judicial reviews, and appeals. You will lead teams on complex litigation files, and supervise junior and intermediate counsel in the carriage of their litigation files.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Member in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario.

Knowledge and Skills

• Recent civil litigation experience conducting all steps in actions, applications, judicial reviews, and appeals. Trial experience is considered an asset.

• Knowledge of public law and the law with respect to aboriginal and treaty rights of Indigenous Peoples is considered an asset.

• Understanding of the nature of the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the Crown in Right of Ontario.

• Demonstrated ability to lead high-profile matters and strong political acuity.

• Demonstrated legal and professional judgment and analytical, written, and oral communication skills.

• Ability to lead large litigation teams collaboratively and effectively.

• Ability to work to strict deadlines on complex legal issues.

• Experience working constructively on teams of diverse members and demonstrated interest in Ontario Public Service (OPS) priorities relating to diversity.
