While the firm prioritizes negotiated settlements and alternative dispute resolution whenever possible, its lawyers have extensive litigation experience before all levels of court in British Columbia, including Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeal. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Family Lawyer role based in Vancouver, BC. The Family Lawyer will advise clients on all aspects of family law, including separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and property division. Daily responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, drafting pleadings, agreements, and correspondence, and managing files from intake through resolution. The role involves negotiating settlements, engaging in mediation or other forms of dispute resolution, and, where necessary, preparing for and appearing in court at various levels in British Columbia. The Family Lawyer will collaborate with colleagues to develop case strategies, maintain organized and timely file management, and uphold the firm’s standards for compassionate client service and clear communication. Qualifications Strong family law knowledge and experience, including separation, divorce, parenting, support, and property matters. Proficiency in legal research, legal writing, and drafting family law documents such as pleadings, agreements, and affidavits. Effective negotiation, mediation, and conflict-resolution skills, with a focus on settlement where appropriate. Court advocacy skills, including preparing evidence, appearing at hearings, and managing litigation files at different court levels. Excellent client communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and professional approach. Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail to handle multiple files and deadlines. Member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia (or eligibility for membership). Minimum of 2–5 years of family law practice experience preferred; experience in a boutique or specialized firm is an asset. Ability to work collaboratively within a small firm environment while taking ownership of files and initiatives.
