Job summary
Thomas Gold Pettingill LLP, a firm with expertise in commercial litigation and insurance law, is currently recruiting for a junior to intermediate-level litigation assistant to provide administrative support for two to three lawyers in the areas of insurance defence litigation and insurance coverage work. The ideal candidate will be outgoing and professional with superior clerical and organizational abilities, a precise attention to detail, and the capacity to prioritize and juggle several tasks simultaneously. Responsibilities Assist in managing busy insurance litigation practices. Liaise with clients and opposing counsel in a professional manner and with diplomacy. Electronically assemble pleadings, affidavits, motion records, motion confirmation forms, facta and books of authorities, etc. Schedule examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trials, court-mandated conferences, etc., and otherwise managing lawyers’ calendars. File pleadings using online platforms and coordinate with court offices as needed for events such as trials, motions, and other hearings or attendances. Draft cover/service letters and arrange for delivery of documents. Other administrative tasks (including typing, editing, formatting, proofreading, filing, printing, photocopying, handling incoming and outgoing mail, entering dockets, coordination of meetings, etc.). Qualifications 1 to 5 years working experience as a litigation assistant, preferably in an insurance defence environment. Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice and procedures at various levels, including but not limited to Notices to the Profession and Regional Practice Directions. Solid typing and computer skills; proficiency in a suite of applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Office/365, document management systems (i.e. Net Documents), and legal accounting software (i.e. Soluno). Excellent written and verbal English skills, including spelling and grammar. Ability to deal effectively with all levels of management while being a team player. Capacity for maintaining a high degree of confidentiality over client information. Salary Range $50,000.00 to $65,000.00, annually. Approximate Start Date As soon as available.
