ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS COMPETITION IS RESTRICTED TO STEP 1 CANDIDATES INCLUDING OPS ALOC AND OCAA LAWYERS living or working within 125 km of this location. Note: Eligible lawyers from outside the Area of Search may apply but will not be entitled to relocation or travel expenses for the transfer as set out below.

Step 1: All regular/fixed-term OCAA and ALOC lawyers on staff, current Redeployment List Members and current Articling Student Hireback Pool Members.
Step 2: In the absence of qualified applicants at Step 1 the competition may be reposted so that external applicants or non-members of the above-mentioned groups would then be eligible to apply.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Deputy Legal Director, your duties will include:

• Assisting Ministry staff, including the Director of Land Registration, the Director of Titles and Examiner of Surveys, in dealing with legal issues related to the administration of land registration statutes
• Conducting hearings and writing and issuing decisions under the Land Titles Act and other land registration statutes
• Providing written and oral legal opinions to senior officials
• Preparing regulations and other legal documents
• Participating in the Ministry's policy and legislative development processes in respect of land registration and related issues

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Technical Legal Experience

• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in real property law and the land registration system in Ontario
• Demonstrated and comprehensive understanding of the statutory framework governing land registration in Ontario
• Experience in providing written or oral legal advice and opinions on an urgent basis, including opinions and advice on interpretations of legislation and regulation.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Land Titles Assurance Fund
• Demonstrated experience supporting the development and drafting of legislation and regulations
• Ability to conduct legal research in complex areas of law
• Proven ability to work independently and provide leadership in a team environment with counsel, articling students and other staff
• Ability to handle a high-volume practice
