The Privacy Specialist will be a member of Honda Canada’s Privacy Office within the company’s Legal Affairs group. The incumbent will develop, manage, and monitor privacy compliance programs for Honda Canada Inc. and Honda Canada Finance Inc. Specifically, the Privacy Specialist will work closely with various teams, including IT, Customer Engagement, Customer Relations, Human Resources and Corporate Governance, and will provide technical guidance and oversight of corporate programs with a view to protecting privacy of customers and employees, and ensuring compliance with applicable law.


  • Develop and support management of company’s privacy compliance program
  • Monitor developments in applicable privacy, anti-spam, and related laws to determine impact on company and identify opportunities; interact with others in similar positions outside the organization; and participate in industry associations
  • Advocate and promote privacy law compliance within Honda Canada and among its dealers
  • Support setting of company’s privacy law compliance programs and activities
  • Manage company privacy policies and disclosures and update them as required
  • Develop and administer privacy training programs for the companies as well as Honda Canada’s network of independent dealers
  • Develop and sustain effective and collaborative professional working relationships within the Legal department, with business groups throughout the company, and externally
  • Liaise with privacy regulators, and customers relating to privacy law matters (e.g. inquiries, information requests, audits, investigations)
  • Support the review and audit of privacy law compliance among business groups, external business partners, and dealers


  • Completed a university degree in law, business administration, information management or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a major corporation or government agency, preferably with experience providing advice and guidance relating to information access and privacy
  • Completed Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) designation would be an asset
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada), provincial privacy laws, and the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation
  • Strong organizational/project management skills
  • Strong written, oral and negotiation skills
  • Robust knowledge of suite of MS Office software products, especially MS Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate issues and strategically identify risk
  • Bilingual in English and French would be an asset
  • Flexible and adapts to change well
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of integrity
