Flynn Group of Companies is currently looking for a Senior Curtain Wall Designer to support our Vancouver Branch located in Surrey, BC (Office Location – 19175 – 22nd Avenue, Surrey BC V3Z 3S6), reporting to the Regional Operations Manager.
A Day in the Life
- Ability to recognize, solve basic Curtain wall/Window detailing issues. Understanding of basic curtain wall construction methods is a must.
- Read and understand Architectural and Structural Drawings
- Foresee/solve and address curtain wall issues as they arise
- Ability to read, understand and review Specifications providing input to estimating for potential risks.
- Organize, schedule projects and liaise with the Drafting Manager / Senior Job Captains
- Resolve outstanding drawing issues and pursue contract clarifications as required.
- Demonstrate seasoned understanding of Curtain Wall/Window systems a must.
- Ability to supervise and provide constructive criticism and input to Jr./Sr. Draftsperson(s)
- Ability to Plan and execute Curtain Wall/Window Proposal / Design Drawings with the use of AutoCAD/Inventor. Accuracy is a must.
- Ability to review specifications and ensure all aspects of the project have been addressed and conveyed to the project team.
- Prepare and execute die shapes.
- Ability to coach and mentor Draftsperson(s)
- Correspond and plan the execution of projects with Estimating, Project Manager(s) , and the Design/Construction teams.
- Understand building construction and sequencing
- Prepare Thermal reports with the use of Therm and Widow 7.4.
- Prepare Mock-up drawings and execution.
- Compose and Conduct site & shop instructions/inspections and reports.

What We Are Seeking
- Proficiency with the following programs:
- Must be Self-motivated, well organized and detail oriented. Accuracy a must.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritizing work to meet critical deadlines
- Must have a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in the Curtain wall industry
- Must have a good understanding of Building Science related topics and issues as they relate to Curtain Wall and Building Envelope design.
- Proven experience in the Curtain Wall industry including the execution of all Design related requirements from start to finish
- Basic understanding of industry codes
- Proven project and team leader
- Strong oral and written communication skills
AutoCAD 2D and 3D modeling Min 5-10 years’ experience
Inventor/ BIM modeling an asset
Therm/ Window 7.4
