Detailed Overview

Performs assessments and interventions relating to patient's occupational performance according to established Occupational Therapy practices; participates in in-service education; and provides input into program development.


Responsibilities

  1. Performs Occupational Therapy Assessments, program planning and intervention in relation to an individual patient's occupational performance, using Occupational Therapy techniques and practices.
  2. Advises patient/family regarding special equipment needs, such as ambulatory aids, special equipment, ie. wheelchairs, seating systems and adaptive equipment for independent living.
  3. Participates in the inter-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care goals, therapeutic strategies and program related issues.
  4. Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, records and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
  5. Consults with medical and other paramedical staff regarding patient care, when appropriate providing information or seeking advice as required.
  6. Participates in departmental Quality Assurance and Risk Management activities that pertain to work area and field of expertise, by satisfaction surveys, program evaluation and development of written procedures, Assessment and Educational material.
  7. Participates in education activities such as department and Hospital in-service, outpatient/family education.
  8. Provides input to Manager, Rehabilitation Services for the purchase of supplies, equipment and repairs of equipment required for Occupational Therapy programs.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy. Current registration as a practising member of the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia. Eligibility for membership in the British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists.

  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in Occupational Therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
