We are currently seeking a Litigation Associate to join our Calgary team.


The preferred candidate will have 3 - 6 years of insurance defence or civil litigation experience. Experience in construction litigation will be an asset. The successful candidate will run files independently and work with experienced and respected senior counsel on larger matters. They will also have an opportunity to focus on their areas of interest within the firm's practice areas, or to have a broad litigation practice. Within insurance, the successful candidate will have exposure to suitable construction, professional indemnity, property, bodily injury, surety, and insurance coverage/contractual matters.


Our associate lawyers can also become involved with other areas of practice including commercial litigation, cyber, transportation, employment, and indigenous practice.


An existing client base is not required.


Responsibilities:

  • Handling all aspects of litigated matters independently but with the mentorship of senior counsel;
  • Independently handling questionings, mediations and chambers applications;
  • Supporting senior counsel on complex matters;
  • Practice and client management and contact;
  • Business development and professional profile enhancement;
  • Meeting billable and non-billable targets.


Qualifications:

  • Legally entitled to practice law in Canada;
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta;
  • 3 - 6 years of insurance defence or civil litigation experience;
  • Excellent English oral and written skills and communication ability;
  • Strong organization and teamwork skills and professional communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a busy practice alongside Legal Assistants and Paralegals.
