ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: McDougall Energy is looking for a collaborative and driven legal professional to fill the position of Corporate Counsel. Reporting to the General Counsel this role is an integral member of the Corporate Legal team responsible for providing strategic legal guidance across all areas of our daily operations and long-term business initiatives. This role will ensure that all departments are well-informed and compliant with relevant areas of law including business, contract and employment laws. Responsibilities include: * Drafting, reviewing and approving commercial contracts, ensuring they align with Company interests and legal standards. * Providing advice on the status of contracts, potential legal risks and associated liabilities. * Managing contractual obligations and corresponding with appropriate departments to ensure adherence throughout their lifecycle. * Offering legal counsel to Management on diverse legal issues and challenges. * Collaborating with various Company departments to ensure understanding and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. * Proactively researching and anticipating legal issues, ensuring the Company is well-prepared for potential challenges. * Managing insurance claim files and supporting insurance counsel. * Assisting with the tender review process for insurance, compliance, certification and indemnification matters. * Design and deliver training sessions on relevant legal topics for the Company’s departments, including specific regulations. ABOUT YOU: The ideal candidate will have: * A law degree from a recognized university and be admitted to the Ontario Bar Association * A licensed member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) * 3 to 5 years of experience practicing as an in house legal practitioner of a mid to large sized corporation or relevant experience working at a business law firm. * Strong interpersonal and presentation skills along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the Company and with external parties. * Strong negotiation skills and keen attention to detail. * Ability to work independently with little supervision. * Proven experience following confidentiality guidelines. Requirements
The ideal candidate must hold a law degree and be a licensed member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario. Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of in-house or business law firm experience with strong negotiation and communication skills.
