As a Legal Counsel at Kainos, you will be joining a commercially focused, leading in-house legal team. You will responsible for performing a variety of legal tasks and escalating issues where appropriate to support the Company in its business activities. This is a hybrid role based out of our Halifax office. Your responsibilities will include: • Negotiating, reviewing, and drafting contracts and commercial terms with customers and suppliers to reflect commercial deals. • Advising on a wide range of cross jurisdictional legal matters. • Researching and upskilling in new and developing areas of law and supporting senior team members in the application and implementation of legal in the Kainos business. • Understanding and assessing risk and providing pragmatic suggestions to address risk. • Reviewing tender documentation and bid process across the public and private sectors. • Ensuring compliance with legal developments • Understanding and advising on legal aspects of Company policies and initiatives. • Assisting Group General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer and CFO as required. MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS: • Qualified Lawyer in good standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society (or the law society of another Canadian province) with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal team; or Degree educated contract manager, contract specialist or paralegal with a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in a legal, commercial, procurement, or contract management role; • Experience in drafting contracts, along with excellent communication, and negotiation skills. • Good commercial awareness and understanding of project and business goals. • Ability to work with minimal supervision and escalate matters where necessary. • Ability to work efficiently and prioritise your workloads in a fast-paced environment, delivering a high level of accuracy and attention to detail within tight timeframes. • A self-starter who can work on their own initiatives with minimal supervision and escalate matters when necessary. • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with both staff and external stakeholders. • We all work in teams here in Kainos - a proven ability of strong team skills, including taking direction from others, is crucial. • Highly flexible, including willingness to work flexible hours at peak times. • Concise, articulate, analytical and enthusiastic. • Business and pragmatic focus approach to work with positive attitude. • Conscientious, approachable, and credible. DESIRABLE: • Familiarity within some, or all, of the following areas of law: IT/IP, Procurement Law, commercial contracts; to include drafting, reviewing, and/or negotiating SaaS, professional services and IT contracts. • Familiarity with enterprise AI technologies and applications.
