CASE ASSESSMENT OFFICER (INTAKE & ASSESSMENT)

Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) is an organization of highly skilled professionals inspired by a public service mission. We are hiring for Bilingual English and French Case Assessment Officers to join our team.
Case Assessment Officer I’s are the first point of contact for consumers and an important resource for firms. They answer consumer and firm inquiries, assess complaints, determine if they are in mandate, and prepare them for assignment to investigators.
Your prior experience working within the financial services sector (2+ years preferred) will help you to understand the issues that face consumers making complaints related to banking and investment products and issues. Your excellent customer service skills will enable you to address consumer concerns via phone and/or email with professionalism and empathy. When a consumer complaint is made, you will assess the case details to determine whether the complaint falls within OBSI’s mandate and proceed with the intake and assessment process. Bilingualism in French and English is preferred with full written and verbal fluency in both languages, and excellent letter writing skills will be key to effectively communicating information and findings to consumers in both of Canada’s official languages.

OBSI is Canada’s trusted independent dispute resolution service for consumers and small businesses with a complaint they can't resolve with their banking services or investment firm. As a free alternative to the legal system, we work informally and confidentially to find fair outcomes to disputes about banking and investment products and services.
OBSI looks into complaints about most banking and investment matters including: mutual funds; bonds and GICs; stocks, exchange traded funds, income trusts and other securities; investment advice; unauthorized trading; fraud; debit and credit cards; mortgages; loans and credit; fees and rates; transaction errors; misrepresentation; and accounts sent to collections. Where a complaint has merit, OBSI may recommend compensation up to a maximum of $350,000.
OBSI’s staff consists of qualified professionals from the financial services, law, accounting, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance fields.
Current participating firms include:
-Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) member firms -Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada (MFDA) member firms -Mutual fund companies -Exempt market dealers -Portfolio managers -Scholarship plan dealers -Forex trading services -Domestic and foreign-owned banks -Credit unions -Federal trust and loan companies and other deposit-taking organizations
