What You’ll Do

Under the general supervision of the Inspector and within established policies, procedures and guidelines provides and assists in the supervision of law enforcement, investigating and security services within the Niagara Parks Commission Police Force.

The Constable Will

Keep the peace, protect life and property. Perform patrols along the 56 km Niagara Parkway, and within lands, retail and food services venues, attractions, and other interests under the jurisdiction of the Niagara Parks Commission. Provide security for receipts between the NPC revenue office and revenue generating venues, as well as bank escorts. Carry out investigations and responds to calls for police service on NPC jurisdiction including property damage, personal injury and fatal motor vehicle accidents, intrusion alarms, counterfeit currency, theft reports, suicides, sudden deaths, etc. Enforce Provincial and Federal statutes including the Criminal Code of Canada, Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, Liquor Licence Act, Niagara Parks Act and regulations, as well as those statutes as referred in the Special Constable Appointment. Issue Provincial Offences Notices, Parking Infraction Notices, Summons, Subpoenas and other documents in relation to enforcement duties. Operate police radar through traffic enforcement duties, directs traffic where necessary, attends court as required to gives evidence to support prosecutions. Perform all duties according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Ontario Human Rights Code, Niagara Parks Commission Circulars, Niagara Parks Police Service directives including General and Routine Orders. Provide general assistance to the visiting public. Maintain police service duty books, submit general incident reports, crown briefs, other reports as required. Care for lost and found articles, exhibits, and other property according to police service directives. Conduct V.I.P. escorts, provides policing for special events, fireworks, parades, etc. Perform dispatch duties as assigned on a non-routine basis.

What You’ll Bring

Completion of the Police Foundations or Law and Security Programs or related courses. Knowledge of NPC Act, Liquor Licence Act, Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code. Working knowledge of selected federal and provincial statutes. Working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (FI-PPA); Knowledge of computers and related software. Knowledge of law enforcement, normally obtained from the successful completion of a Law and Security diploma through a Community College or Police Foundations training. Ability to communicate clearly and make quick decisions within established procedure or authority. Ability to improvise when required. Good organizational skills and ability to get along with others. Good physical condition.
