About the role
Dickson Appell LLP is looking an entry-level Legal Assistant/Law Clerk to join our dynamic team to provide support to a Partner’s robust estate planning and litigation practice. This is a hybrid position (details below), and the successful candidate will have:
· Successful completion of post secondary Legal Assistant / Law Clerk program; · Strong oral and written communication skills; · Ability to perform well under pressure; effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines; · Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask; · Attention to detail; · Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and related office applications; · A positive attitude and a professional, compassionate client-oriented approach.
Responsibilities Compile and finalize estate planning documents including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts and reporting documentation; Assist with preparing probate applications, court filings and related follow-up; Draft standard legal documents - Affidavits of Execution for Wills; motion/hearing confirmation forms; engagement letters, correspondence, etc.; Manage court filings, scheduling, deadlines, and file organization including diarizing limitation periods, litigation schedules etc.; Assist with preparation for litigation proceedings including: trials, motions, mediations, and case conferences; Schedule virtual and in-person meetings directly with clients and other advisors and maintain schedule; Attend as a second witness for execution of Wills and Powers of Attorney (virtual and in-person); Scan, file and e-file documentation; Assist with accounting, opening and closing files, conflict searches, docketing, and billing, etc., and; Daily administrative tasks and clerical duties as assigned. This is a hybrid position, with the opportunity to work remotely as may be agreed after an in-office introductory training period. Compensation The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $55,000 annually; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
