With the support of the Government of Canada, this innovative project aims to improve the quality of life of our citizens, strengthen ties between communities and stimulate economic growth.   Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge?  We are looking for a Senior Director, Disputes Resolution & Insurance.  The role   Reporting to the Vice-President, Legal Affairs, the Senior Director, Disputes Resolution & Insurance plays a key role in leading Alto's litigation, dispute resolution, claims and insurance functions, providing strategic legal advice to senior management while ensuring the effective management of legal risks across the organization. They oversee complex litigation matters, insurance programs, and claims management activities and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to protect the Alto's interests.   The responsibilities  

Provide strategic legal advice to Alto's senior management on litigation, dispute resolution, claims management, insurance matters, and legal risk mitigation. Develop and implement strategies for the management and resolution of litigation, arbitration, mediation, regulatory proceedings, and other disputes involving Alto. Oversee all claims-related matters and coordinate Alto's response to potential legal exposures. Manage relationships with external legal counsel and ensure the quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of legal services provided to Alto. Lead Alto's insurance strategy, including the assessment of insurance requirements, procurement of appropriate coverage, policy renewals, and claims management. Advise senior management on insurance-related risks and recommend solutions to protect Alto's assets, operations, and strategic objectives. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal affairs, finance, procurement, project management, and risk management teams, to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies. Review, negotiate, and advise on contractual provisions relating to liability, indemnification, insurance, and dispute resolution. Oversee the analysis and management of insurance policies to ensure compliance with contractual and corporate requirements. Represent Alto in discussions with insurers, brokers, counterparties, regulatory authorities, and other external stakeholders. Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, contracts, legal opinions, settlement agreements, analyses, and presentations. Advise colleagues in other division on legal and insurance risks and propose practical solutions to mitigate them. Conduct research and provide guidance on evolving legal, regulatory, insurance, and claims-related matters.

The requirements  

Law degree and member in good standing of the Quebec or Ontario Bar. Minimum 15 years of professional experience in litigation, dispute resolution, insurance law, claims management, or a combination thereof, preferably within a corporation, Crown corporation, major infrastructure organization, or leading law firm. Significant experience managing complex litigation and working with external counsel. Experience in major infrastructure, transportation, construction, public-private partnership (P3), or Crown corporation environments is an asset. Strong knowledge of corporate insurance programs, claims management processes, and risk transfer mechanisms. Proven leadership and team mobilization skills. Strong judgment, strategic thinking, and analytical abilities; Excellent negotiation, dispute resolution, and stakeholder management skills. Exceptional rigor and attention to detail. Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Dynamic, resourceful, adaptable, and results-oriented. Bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written, is an important asset in this role.   Why join our innovative team?
