Team members work closely with clients to deliver practical solutions, clear guidance, and compassionate representation in challenging family law situations. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Family Law Lawyer role based in Edmonton, AB with Spectrum Family Law LLP. The lawyer will manage a caseload involving issues such as custody and access, child and spousal support, property division, separation agreements, divorce proceedings, and surrogacy and fertility-related matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, providing legal advice, drafting pleadings, agreements, and other legal documents, and representing clients in negotiations, mediation, and court appearances. The lawyer will collaborate with colleagues on complex files, develop case strategies aligned with client goals, and maintain organized, timely file management and documentation. The role also involves staying current with family law statutes and case law, contributing to firm initiatives, and supporting a respectful, client-focused work environment. Qualifications License to practice law in Alberta and good standing with the Law Society of Alberta; eligibility or experience in British Columbia family law considered an asset. Demonstrated experience in family law, including child custody and support, separation and divorce, and related dispute resolution processes. Strong skills in legal research, legal writing, drafting court documents, and preparing settlement agreements. Proficiency in negotiation, mediation preparation, and advocacy in court, with sound judgment and strategic thinking. Excellent client communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and manage sensitive matters with discretion and empathy. Solid organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple files, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate records. Ability to work collaboratively within a small-firm environment and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and professional workplace culture. Comfort with legal practice management software, document management systems, and standard office technology. Juris Doctor or LLB from an accredited law school; prior experience at a family law firm or in civil litigation is an asset.
