Members of the Board of Directors
About the role
Applications are invited for appointments to the Boards of Directors of either Horizon Health Network or Vitalité Health Network, New Brunswick’s two separate Regional Health Authorities.
Together, these organizations deliver essential health services to communities across the province, serving hundreds of thousands of residents in both official languages. Horizon Health Network is the largest health authority in New Brunswick, while Vitalité Health Network is the only Francophone-led health authority of its kind in Canada, operating nearly 60 points of care.
Each Board of Directors is responsible for providing strategic oversight, setting organizational direction, and ensuring accountability in the delivery of high-quality, accessible health services. Working in partnership with executive leadership, Board members play a critical role in shaping the long-term vision, monitoring performance, and ensuring the voices of communities are reflected in decision-making.
As Horizon Health Network and Vitalité Health Network continue to evolve and address increasingly complex health-care challenges, there is a strong need for seasoned governance leaders who can contribute at a high level in dynamic, public-sector environments. Successful candidates will bring demonstrated experience operating at the board level in complex organizations, with the ability to provide independent oversight, sound judgment, and strategic counsel. They will help foster a high-performing, forward-looking Board culture grounded in integrity, accountability, and innovation.
To complement existing Board competencies, candidates are sought with expertise in governance, law and ethics; finance, accounting and risk management; strategic planning and performance oversight; information technology, digital transformation and AI; research and innovation; communications, public affairs and government relations; human resources and organizational leadership; and/or infrastructure, environmental and facilities management.
In addition to functional expertise, priority will be given to candidates with significant prior board or governance experience, ideally within large, complex, or public-sector organizations. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong strategic thinking, financial literacy, and oversight capabilities; the ability to challenge constructively, influence decisions, and contribute to effective Board dynamics; and a clear commitment to public service and improving health outcomes. Candidates should also demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a reputation for integrity and collaboration. Vitalité Health Network’s language of work is French; therefore, French language competency is a prerequisite for the Vitalité Health Network appointments.
Applications are also invited for appointment of the Chair of the Vitalité Health Network Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in chairing large organizations, integrating public input, collaborating with diverse teams, and effectively communicating outcomes. The Chair will bring proven expertise at the board level within complex organizations.
Please indicate in your application which position you are interested in being considered for (member, Chair, or both).
Both Boards are committed to reflecting the diversity of the populations they serve.
Applications are welcomed from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples, members of equity-deserving groups, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Candidates must be residents of New Brunswick and meet regional eligibility requirements related to the applicable health authority jurisdiction.
Directors should reside in the following service areas: Vitalité Health Network Directors (3 positions, including chair) – Kent, Southeast, Northwest, Restigouche, Chaleur, and Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commissions, excluding Neguac. Horizon Health Network Directors (2 positions) – Kent, Southeast, Kings, Fundy, Southwest New Brunswick, Capital, Western Valley, and Greater Miramichi Regional Service Commissions, and Neguac.
Board members are appointed by the Minister of Health following a recommendation process led in partnership with Odgers. The Chair is appointed by the Minister from the membership of the Board. Terms are time-limited, and upcoming vacancies provide an opportunity to strengthen Board composition with experienced governance leaders. These are appointments offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the future of health care in New Brunswick.
