About the role

Opportunity Overview Evertrust Development Group Inc. is seeking to connect with an Ontario lawyer, independent counsel, or small legal team for ongoing project-based legal support related to real estate development, construction, purchaser-default, enforcement and commercial dispute matters. This opportunity is intended for practical counsel who can review organized fact summaries and source documents, identify the key legal and business risks, and provide clear written recommendations on next steps. The work may be part-time, contract-based, fixed-fee, capped-fee, hourly, or project-based depending on the matter. This is not a general residential closing role. The focus is on disputes, enforcement, construction or development-related legal issues, and commercially useful written work that management can act on. Types of Work · Review internal summaries, source documents, correspondence, agreements, closing materials, project records and supporting evidence. · Assess real estate development, construction, purchaser-default, contract enforcement, creditor recovery, Tarion/HCRA-related, condominium, lien or commercial dispute issues. · Draft or review demand letters, default notices, response letters, settlement proposals, risk assessments, legal memoranda and concise recommendation summaries. · Advise on litigation risk, evidence gaps, procedural options, enforcement routes, negotiation strategy and practical next steps. · Support management with clear guidance on time-sensitive matters and help organize issues for internal decision-making or external counsel involvement where required. · Coordinate with company representatives, consultants, outside counsel, opposing counsel or other parties when appropriate. Preferred Experience · Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. · Experience with commercial litigation, construction disputes, development-side real estate issues, purchaser-default matters, enforcement files, creditor recovery, property disputes or similar business disputes. · Experience acting for or advising developers, builders, commercial property owners, lenders, creditors, contractors, condominium-related parties or business clients is an asset. · Strong legal drafting skills, with the ability to prepare practical written work without extensive rewriting. · Comfortable reviewing document packages, identifying relevant facts, and separating legal risk from business risk. · Responsive on time-sensitive files and clear about timelines, conflicts, availability and who will perform the work. · Open to discussing capped-fee, fixed-fee, hourly, retainer-based or project-based arrangements. Engagement Structure · We are open to part-time, contract, project-based, overflow, or ongoing legal support arrangements. · Remote or hybrid work may be considered; however, Ontario legal practice experience is required. · The successful lawyer or legal team may be asked to attend virtual meetings or occasional in-person meetings at an assigned Ontario office location, including Markham or Muskoka, based on business needs. · The first assignment may be structured as a limited project so both sides can assess fit, turnaround time and quality of written work. How to Apply Interested candidates should provide a brief summary of relevant experience, billing structure, current availability, turnaround time, and examples of the types of matters they regularly handle. Please also indicate whether the work would be completed directly by the lawyer responding or by other members of a legal team.
