About the Role
LNG Canada is seeking a construction lawyer to support the Phase 2 Pipeline Expansion during construction. You will partner closely with the project, contracts and construction management teams to provide timely, practical legal advice on contract administration and dispute avoidance, including support for claims, deviations, and variation/change requests arising from the EPCM contractor, prime construction contractors, and other contractors and suppliers. You will review and interpret project agreements and support contract administration across the EPCM and construction contracting model, including claims management, dispute resolution strategy, and compliance with LNG Canada’s commitments to the Pipeline owner, Coastal GasLink.

You will use your expertise to:
- Provide day-to-day legal support to the Phase 2 Pipeline Expansion execution and construction teams, including guidance on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and compliance with contractual processes.
- Support the EPCM contractor relationship, including review and negotiation of amendments/clarifications and preparation of formal correspondence.
- Advise on and help manage contractor claims, deviations/non-conformances, and variations/change requests, including supporting change management and dispute avoidance.
- Support dispute resolution strategy on execution and construction issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders and (as needed) external counsel.
- Work effectively within the LNG Canada Legal team.
To be successful, you will have:
- Membership in the Law Society of British Columbia or the Law Society of Alberta (or equivalent), or eligibility for admission.
- 7 to 10 years experience at the bar
- Experience supporting major capital projects (LNG, pipelines, or similar energy infrastructure) through execution and construction (asset).
- Experience advising on contractor claims, change management/variations, deviations/non-conformances, and dispute resolution in a projects environment; familiarity with delay analysis concepts (preferred).
- Ability to find creative and practical solutions to legal and commercial issues, within acceptable legal and risk frameworks.
- Strong influencing, negotiation, facilitation, and legal drafting skills, with the ability to clearly explain legal risk and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Ability to develop and sustain relationships with business contacts, particularly at junior-to-mid levels of the organization, and with stakeholders having diverse cultural backgrounds;
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure with competing priorities and tight deadlines, including with stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions/time zones; strong relationship-building and teamwork skills.
- Fluent in English both spoken and written.
This role requires that you:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
- Live in or are willing to relocate to Calgary.
