Dentons’ Toronto office is seeking a Business Immigration Associate with three to five years of experience. As a Business Immigration Lawyer with Dentons, you will work as part of a team dedicated to developing and preparing timely-filed immigration applications and petitions for corporate clients (and their employees), as well as high net worth individuals. Skills and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Delivering high volume, challenging business immigration services.
  • Implementing various strategies to deliver on clients’ business needs and mitigate immigration risks.
  • Drafting complete application and petition packages.
  • Preparing temporary resident/non-immigrant applications and petitions related to:
    • Work permits (e.g., intracompany transferees, free trade agreement professionals, treaty traders/investors, etc.);
    • Business visitors;
    • Entry visas; and
    • Inadmissibility.
  • Preparing permanent resident/immigrant applications and petitions.
  • Preparing citizenship/passport matters.
  • Drafting forms, cover letters, supporting letters, offers of employment, and completing any other tasks required in preparation of immigration applications and petitions.
  • Ensuring that applications and petitions are filed in a timely manner, and following up with immigration authorities in connection with pending applications/petitions.
  • Using technology (including INSZoom) and digital initiatives to enhance the client experience.
  • Reviewing your work for quality, accuracy, and relevance.
  • Staying abreast of changes in immigration law, regulations, and policies.

What You Will Bring to This Role

  • Comprehensive knowledge of business immigration law, as evidenced by three to five years of relevant full-time work experience as a business immigration lawyer.
  • Possession of a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).
  • Licensed to practice in Canada and/or in the United States (dual-licenced Canada/U.S. candidates strongly preferred).
  • Advanced English written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft complex and comprehensive legal submissions.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to locate and research information efficiently, to use it effectively, and to evaluate the quality of the information.
  • Excellent data analytical skills and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and organize tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to multi-task, proactively resolve any issues that arise, and work effectively under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
