We are currently seeking an enthusiastic advisor to examine and review files that are the subject of disputes before the Tribunal administratif du Travail (TAT) by employees and/or the Corporation and, as the authority in the field, determine whether these contestation requests appeal is warranted. You will represent the Corporation before the Tribunal administratif du Travail for the province of Quebec. You will act as liaison with all administrative levels of the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), the TAT, Human Resources and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) as well as with internal stakeholders to protect the Corporation's interests and expose systematic issues. In addition, you will provide advice to the Corporation, claims agents, the Corporation's regional management, customers and the stakeholders concerned by the claims management process, trends and development, as well as policy, training and supervision.

Job Responsibilities

Here are the main requirements and duties related to the position of Specialist, Administrative Tribunal of Labour.

  • Represent the Corporation before the Tribunal administratif du travail, including during the conciliation and mediation process. Make decisions within a limited time span while considering the administrative, economic and public consequences of such decisions or positions. Report to a higher level any issues with an impact on corporate policy, sensitive issues with an effect on brand image and the Corporation's interests, or with a more extensive financial impact.
  • Play an advisory role with Human Resources Business Partners and related teams, in particular for highly complex or extended cases.
  • Examine and review contested cases before the Tribunal administratif du Travail. Conduct case reviews, case law research, case preparation in view of conciliation, and maintain good relations with union authorities.

  • Participate in initiatives, play a bridging role with the Corporation's headquarters, and attend meetings as required. Provide comments from a regional perspective on new trends, important events or issues to be handled. Exert influence over changes in the Corporation's policies, guidelines and administrative practices in view of constantly improving financial efficiency and protecting the Corporation's assets and interests.
  • Keep abreast of laws, regulations, legislation and jurisprudence related to occupational health and safety with an impact on claims management operations. Through professional development, maintain a level of competence with respect to all issues pertaining to industrial accidents and occupational diseases.
  • Maintain partnerships with the Tribunal administratif du Travail, regional appellate courts and the ESDC in view of constantly improving Canada Post's workers' compensation performance. Identify crucial and recurring problems, discuss the impact of the appeals process on operational and financial performance.
  • Maintain a network of internal and external contacts to regularly benchmark and remain current on trends and new developments related to programs, policies and strategies in the field. Participate in HR committees and events in order to remain current and promote the Corporation's brand.



  • Bachelor's degree in law, industrial relations or in a related field OR a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Member of the Quebec Bar an asset


  • 1 to 3 years relevant functional experience
  • Over one year experience in a unionized environment an asset.
  • Experience in litigation an asset.

Other requirements

  • Knowledge of the Government Employees Compensation Act an asset.
  • Experience in case law research and drafting legal correspondence, opinions and reports.
  • Experience in case analysis; good reasoning skills and legal common sense;
  • Good planning, relationship management, negotiating and influential skills.
