dcbel is hiring a Head of Legal who is motivated by the challenge of building and scaling a global business.

Role and Responsibilities

As dcbel's legal advisor, you'll help protect the organization's legal interests by ensuring its legal compliance as we scale our operations worldwide. You'll represent the organization and play a key role in ensuring that our rights are protected and obligations are met.

You will serve as the custodian of all our legal commitments and commercial agreements and ensure the implementation and adherence thereto throughout the company and its subsidiaries. You will also have to carry out risk analysis, align and standardize business processes and contracts to ensure efficiency and profitability, develop internal policies that match current business needs and anticipated hyper growth as well as manage relationships with external lawyers.

Extensive industry knowledge and interpersonal savviness is a must as coordination and conformity with internal and external stakeholders is a key part of this role.


  • Draft template agreements and support your internal clients in negotiations with external stakeholders;
  • Act as a reliable and knowledgeable partner of choice to help elaborate and develop commercial and contractual strategies;
  • Provide guidance on different contractual provisions and contract related issues which impact dcbel's day-to-day relationships with its partners;
  • Be involved in claims management, including reviewing and negotiating settlement agreements;
  • Manage filing and follow-up on patents and trademarks;
  • Proactively manage risk through training and coaching of your business partners, as well as through the creation and implementation of efficient contract governance processes; and
  • Help to find and integrate best industry practices for negotiating and drafting procurement contracts.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • BCL and licensed to practice law in Quebec with experience of interacting with Canadian and American bars.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Experience in identifying, managing, prosecuting for registration and commercializing intellectual property around the world.
  • Experience negotiating strategic partnerships with partners, such as OEM, VAR, license, distribution and supply arrangements.
  • Provide best-in-class legal advice that is integrated with your clients' strategies and objectives and coordinated across all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Provide advice in a clear, concise and timely manner in a highly demanding and time sensitive environment.
  • Build and maintain excellent, collaborative working relationships internally and externally.
  • Contribute to legal initiatives, including Knowledge Management and workflow improvement.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organization skills, ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to think critically, work independently and make risk-based decisions.
