Our Real Estate Department is currently seeking a Senior Real Estate Law Clerk to join our dynamic team of professionals. The ideal candidate will be a confident, proactive, highly detailed oriented team player who possesses excellent organizational skills. Working in a team with other clerks and lawyers, it is expected that the candidate will be able to handle high volume of work with tight turnaround times.

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Review and conduct title/off-title searches and draft detailed title memos;
  • Draft and review real property transaction closing documents, purchase agreements, title opinions, title insurance, leases and mortgage financing documents;
  • Communicate and correspond with clients and lawyers on ongoing matters as needed;
  • Conduct real property due diligence reviews;
  • Organize and coordinate transactions and documents for closings;
  • Manage all aspects of commercial real estate purchase, sale and financing transactions;
  • Review and analysis of PPSA searches, draft and prepare no-interest letters and related transaction documents;
  • Assist other department clerks; and
  • Assist with special projects and assignments as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Completion of the Associate Level Program with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or a diploma from an Ontario Law Clerk program certified with ILCO;
  • 7-10+ years of commercial real estate law clerk experience working in a large Canadian law firm environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Working knowledge of legislation relevant to the Real Estate practice area, such as the Land Titles Act, Registry Act, Land Registration Reform Act and the Planning Act;
  • Strong transactional background, including real property acquisitions, dispositions, financings and title searching;
  • High level of expertise and technical proficiency using Teraview and the MS Office Suite; and
  • University degree would be an asset.
