Deloitte's Forensic services professionals identify and resolve various types of corporate disputes and irregularities. We also carry out analyses, provide opinions and draft clear, logical reports. We apply a variety of quantitative and qualitative techniques aimed at identifying and analyzing presumed damages stemming from the following cases: business interruptions, broken contracts, negligence, breaches of obligations, intellectual property violations and other similar situations. We quantify actual or potential losses while helping our clients reduce their fraud-related risks, tracing misappropriated funds and resolving business and financial disputes on a fast-track basis.

Our Toronto office is currently seeking a Senior Associate on the Discovery Team within the Deloitte Forensic practice.
With the proliferation of electronic data, companies are finding it increasingly difficult to identify the documents required to comply with regulatory requests, conduct investigations or resolve business disputes. As a leading provider of electronic discovery services in Canada, the Discovery team offers a full end-to-end solution for clients, from collection, through document review, to the final production of documents.

We work on a variety of matters, including:


o Civil litigation
o Class actions
o Competition Bureau inquiries, including responses to Requests For Information (RFIs) and Supplemental Information Requests (SIRs)
o Corporate investigations
o Diligence
o Freedom of Information Requests for government and quasi-governmental organizations


Our Discovery team members use a robust methodology to enhance the work of our document review teams while minimizing costs. Our discovery processes are supported by state-of the-art technology infrastructure that ensures the proper preservation, collection, identification, review, analysis and production of documents. Our goal is to help companies with their complete discovery needs, so that they can get back to business. The team has strong leadership and works closely together sharing knowledge and helping each other learn and excel!

Responsibilities

The Senior Associate will be focused on eDiscovery matters and responsible for compiling, normalizing and analyzing large volumes of electronic data using our eDiscovery technologies. Additional responsibilities may include:


• Collecting and Preserving digital evidence from a wide range of digital media,
• Recovering and analyzing electronic stored information,
• Analyzing, designing, developing and implementing complex data analytics systems,
• Maintaining case management systems and workflows,
• Preparing and packaging data for production to clients,
• Assist in lab infrastructure maintenance and upgrade
• Development of junior and off-shore staff,

The Discovery team members work closely with forensic accountants, lawyers, litigation support teams, document review teams, clients and investigators with a view to producing analysis, expertise, and advice in support of investigations and litigation matters. This is not a back office role, but rather a position in which you will enter direct and frequent communication with all levels of stakeholders on engagements


Given the nature of the work involved, a flexible work schedule and availability to travel inside and outside Canada are essential for all individuals joining the Discovery team. Candidates should also be able to obtain "secret" level security clearance from the Canadian government, as well as a U.S. work visa.


Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French would be an asset). They should also have a degree from a recognized university or College in any of the following disciplines (or equivalent):


• Computer science
• Information Technology
• Information systems
• Business Intelligence
• Cyber Fraud
• Cyber Investigations

External Posting Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience
• Case experience in eDiscovery matters
• Litigation support, technological investigations and eDiscovery
• Solid system administration and infrastructure experience
• Working knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM)
• Experience with most of the following technologies:
o eDiscovery tools such as: Relativity, IPRO, Nuix, Clearwell, dtSearch
o Database administration and Languages such as: MS-SQL, Oracle, T-SQL, PL-SQL
o Operating systems such as: Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS, Unix
o Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint
o Forensic tools such as: EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, Tableau (preferred but not required)

Furthermore, the ideal candidate possesses the following abilities:
• Customer service experience in a professional environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team
• Efficient communicator both verbally and in writing
• Ability to elaborate innovative solutions
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively inside and outside of Canada as required (40% to 50%)
