TMX Group’s Office of the General Counsel (GCO) is a hard-working legal team with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and London (U.K.) and is responsible for providing TMX Group and its subsidiaries with the full suite of legal services they need to support and develop their businesses, including with respect to corporate, securities, governance, regulatory, commercial and intellectual property law.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as legal adviser on new product and project initiatives and projects led by TSX and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV), our equity trading business, and our systemically important clearing house (CDS).
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the TSX Company Manual, TSXV Corporate Finance Manual, trading rulebooks for TSX, TSXV, and Alpha Exchange, and CDS rules.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the filing and regulatory approval process for TSX, TSXV and CDS relating to rule changes, fee changes, or data products.
  • Provide ongoing legal support and advice to the TSX, TSXV and CDS, including with respect to client inquiries and requests.
  • Monitor securities industry and related legal and policy developments in Canada and other jurisdictions, and comment on such policies where applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Member of law society in any province of Canada in good standing.
  • 3-4 years corporate finance and M&A experience at a law firm.
  • Knowledge of securities laws and other aspects of corporate finance for both TSX and TSXV listed issuers.
  • Knowledge of trading and/or clearing and settlement operations is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset, but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
