Job Summary

Flynn has an opportunity for an intermediate level Counsel with construction industry experience to join our Legal team in the company’s Mississauga office. This role is for a minimum term of 12 months.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the company’s VP Legal and General Counsel, the Legal Counsel’s primary responsibilities are to support Flynn’s Canadian operations in the following areas:

  • Reviewing and negotiating prime, partner and subcontract agreements for a full range of commercial construction projects involving private and public owners
  • Offering practical legal advice to Flynn’s operations and shared services partners on matters such as risk mitigation, contract disputes, liens and collections
  • Assist the business on legal disputes as needed, including directing external counsel in payment disputes and claims

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Experience in-house or at a commercial / business law firm with construction law experience is preferred
  • A track record in contract drafting, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively analyze and mitigate risk
  • A proactive, self-motivated problem solver
  • The ability to partner with others at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • An interest in the business and industry of construction and the ability to provide proactive, business-oriented advice
