The Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Inc. (CGCIC) promotes bilateral economic relations between Canada and Germany and is recognized as an official German Chamber of Commerce abroad by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Berlin. With over 130 offices in 90 countries worldwide, German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) offer their experience, contacts and services to German and foreign companies. They are located in all countries that are of particular interest to the German economy.

CGCIC is the primary contact for German and Canadian companies, organizations and individuals interested in market entry into the respective other country. The Chamber is a non-for-profit organization located in Toronto, ON, with a total headcount of more than 20 employees.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to CGCIC clients with focus on incorporation services and other legal and tax proceedings.

Education/Experience

  • Master of Laws or similar
  • Minimum one year experience with similar responsibilities (experience with both non-profit and for-profit organizations is considered an asset)
  • Experience in advising of Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • General knowledge of German Civil law and Commercial law
  • Overall broad knowledge of General Business Law, in particular in regard to incorporation, registration and licensing processes
  • Knowledge of Canada-Germany relations would be an asset, especially regarding trade relationships
  • Experience in the German Chambers Abroad (AHK) network would be an asset
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Highly self-motivated, positive presence, confident
  • Excellent ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines with little supervision
  • High attention to detail, organization, and service-oriented
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of German is an asset as most clients are German speaking

Responsibilities

  • Helping German SMEs navigate the Canadian legal and tax system
  • Advising clients on the appropriate legal form and structure of their company in Canada as well as on general legal inquiries regarding incorporation
  • Performing the incorporation and necessary registrations with the Canadian authorities
  • Coordinating and assisting with the development and revision of company by-laws, articles, and policies
  • Drafting, negotiating, structuring, interpreting and executing and/or administering contractual documents with clients located in German speaking countries in Europe
  • Interpreting contracts and writing proposals as well as seeking opportunities for business development within a defined area or sector and creating and negotiating agreements
  • General consulting in regard to different legal and tax related topics
  • Review, modification and drafting of internal legal documents for the Chamber
  • Supervision of staff as well as German articling students
  • Acquisition of new clients

Salary and benefits

  • Salary CAD 37.00 - CAD 42.00 per hour (depending on experience)
