The Role:


As a Corporate Lawyer at Zurich Canada you will work on a collaborative legal team, providing legal and regulatory advice across all lines of business and support functions. You will be exposed to diverse areas of law, including corporate/commercial, insurance regulatory, employment law, privacy, data security and intellectual property, and will work directly with internal clients to provide practical, solutions driven advice.
Required Skills/Experience
• LL.B or JD Degree
• Licensed to practice law in Ontario
• 1-3 years of corporate/commercial experience gained from a law firm or in-house environment (or combination of both). Experience in the insurance industry or other regulated environment will be considered a substantial asset.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and across business units
• A self-starter, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present issues, options and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with varying time requirements
• Ability to work within an environment of continuous change and growth
• Practical, solutions-based problem-solving skills

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the General Counsel, this role is responsible for:
• Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
• Providing advice in respect of insurance laws and regulation, including licensing matters, product development and reinsurance
• Providing Corporate Governance support
• Helping to identify key legal/ regulatory risks
• Supporting the legal team in developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Preparing filings and reports to regulators, government agencies and business stakeholders
• Training and informing stakeholders on key legal and regulatory issues
