Stikeman Elliott LLP, one of Canada’s pre-eminent business law firms, is seeking an experienced lawyer to join and support our corporate practice with respect to a wide range of complex corporate, commercial and governance matters. The successful candidate will also spearhead and manage initiatives to support those corporate practices with thought leadership and critical practice resources and by using innovative approaches to practice, data management and legal technology. This is a unique and progressive opportunity for someone who enjoys private practice and is looking to hone their legal operations and leadership skills.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing legal advice and services to clients and internal legal teams on corporate, commercial and governance matters.
  • Leading the ongoing development and maintenance of first-class knowledge, practice and thought leadership resources to support our corporate, commercial and governance practices.
  • Identifying and leading initiatives for process improvement, automation and productization, and spearheading utilization of the firm's corporate legal technology tools and resources.
  • Developing and implementing the annual business plan, budget and income statement for our corporate services practice.

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least 5 years of client-facing legal experience as a corporate lawyer in a top tier corporate firm, with excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong technical legal, analytical and drafting skills combined with the ability to use logic to solve complex problems, excellent organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience with change management, working efficiently and collaboratively with cross-functional and multi-location teams to deliver complex business projects.
  • Experience and facility with legal technology products, ideally including document automation and database implementation/development, and interest in and curiosity about new technological innovations and how they can be successfully integrated into legal work.
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a strong interest in innovation and in evolving best practices in legal and knowledge industries
