Reporting to the City Solicitor, you will demonstrate the ability to work independently while managing a broad range of files. You will be primarily responsible for managing the City's litigation matters, appearing before various courts, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario; Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and Ontario Court of Justice; as well as administrative tribunals, including the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, Assessment Review Board, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and the (Ontario) Human Rights Tribunal. You will also be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions related to all facets of the City's operations and administration; providing instructions to and oversight of external legal counsel; preparing and delivering written reports and oral presentations to Council, its Committees, Task Forces, Boards and subsidiaries; drafting and reviewing municipal contracts, by-laws, agreements, policies and procedures; and undertaking other legal tasks as assigned. Experience in Risk Management and Insurance, as well as advising with respect to Labour and Employment; Engineering Projects, Environmental Services, Fleet and Transit, Operational Services; Provincial Offences, and Procurement is a definite asset.
SALARY RANGE: $93,106 to $116,382 per annum (based on a 35 hour work week) plus benefits
