Several opportunities are available for experienced lawyers to join the Government of Nunavut (GN) as Legal Counsel within the Legal and Constitutional Law Division.
Based in Iqaluit, NU, and working under the general direction of the Deputy Minister of Justice, the Assistant Deputy Attorney General, and the Director of Legal and Constitutional Law, you'll provide legal services to Cabinet, all government departments and certain public agencies, as well as represent the interests of the GN in all court and tribunal proceedings, and in intergovernmental and other negotiations.
More specifically, you'll provide legal services in relation to commercial law matters, including drafting and reviewing major contracts, contribution agreements, and templates for use by various government departments. As Legal Counsel, you'll also provide legal advice and services in relation to government procurement, labour and employment law, the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Compensation & benefits: This position is not included in the Nunavut Employees Union, and offers a salary range of $110,591 to $148,356 per annum, commensurate with experience, plus a Northern Allowance of $15,016 per annum. Note: Subsidized staff housing is available.
