The Opportunity

Applications are being welcomed for a Legal Counsel position within our Risk Management and Compliance Department. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for providing legal services to the Medavie Inc. group of companies and its operating companies.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing various contracts to identify legal and corporate risks related to execution of the document and providing feedback to corporate signing officers. This includes revising drafting contracts, providing support during the contract creation phase as well as contract negotiations.
• Researching and analyzing issues to provide legal advice and recommendations to internal clients throughout the organization on a variety of operational matters;
• Supporting regulatory and legal monitoring activities as well as analyzing and assessing changes to laws and regulations, and communicating those changes to stakeholders in a business-savvy manner;
• Providing legal analysis and support to Medavie’s internal Ombudsperson to the Autorité des Marchés Financiers. This includes assessing policy complaints and providing legal analysis to assist in determining the validity of claims;
• Working with external counsel on various legal matters.
• Providing support to Chief Privacy Officer on various privacy and compliance matters.
• Monitoring lawsuits and legal expenses.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Post-secondary education in related field coupled with a Law Degree; Member in good standing with the Law Society in at least one of Medavie’s operating jurisdictions.
Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of Legal Counsel Work Experience
Other Qualifications: Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Language Skills: Bilingualism is considered an asset
