Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, Fort McMurray. The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice. In addition, the ACPS develops criminal law policy for the province and supports criminal law consultation with other levels of government.
Alberta Justice and Solicitor General has two opportunities for lawyers to join our Regional Prosecutions team in Fort McMurray.

Working with the Regional Prosecutions team and representing the Crown, you will conduct criminal litigation in the Provincial Court and in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Fort McMurray and also the Provincial Court in Fort Chipewyan. Applying a strong knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, you will be responsible for the prosecution of a variety of cases. This will involve determining appropriate charges, discussions with defense counsel and other stakeholders. Utilizing your exceptional verbal and written communication skills, you will prepare legal arguments and opinions as well as provide advice and assistance to peace officers and community agencies. This opportunity will constantly challenge your proven legal skills, strong decision-making skills and your ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Qualifications: A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)/Juris Doctor (JD), active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta and related legal experience. Experience in prosecutions and/or criminal law is preferred.

There is one permanent position and one temporary position for a one year term.
Classification and salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications.
Candidates that work and reside in Fort McMurray may be eligible for the Fort McMurray Allowance of $478.17 per bi-weekly pay period in addition to regular earnings is provided. You may be eligible for an attraction bonus which is a one-time payment equivalent to 25% of base pay upon commencement.
You may be eligible for relocation expenses up to $10,000.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license for travel to circuit court locations. Final candidates will be asked to undergo security screening.
