Job summary This position is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support for lawyers in the advocacy group of the Edmonton office. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated and highly organized, has superior computer, proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment. Responsibilities include: * Creating documents from standard forms or handwritten notes and editing various legal documents * Preparing court materials in Court of Justice, King’s Bench, Court of Appeal * Maintaining lawyers’ calendar and contacts, scheduling client appointments as directed and arranging travel schedules as necessary * Organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks and completing them under time constraints * Performing client conflict checks, opening new client matters and maintaining established files * Preparing client billings, responding to billing inquiries and coordinating with clients for billing preference * Maintaining an efficient electronic file system, having strong organization skills with exceptional attention to detail Qualifications include: * Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program (equivalencies will be considered) * Minimum of five years of experience in an active litigation practice * Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software * Experience working on insolvency matters would be an asset * Experience working on Court of Appeal and Federal Court filings would be an asset * Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills * Ability to work for multiple lawyers * Ability to organize and prioritize multiple deadlines under time constraints * Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment * A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients We offer: * A competitive salary including individual performance bonus * Flexible benefit plans for dental, health and wellness benefits * Access to group savings plans and investment options * Earned Days Off Program * Growth and development opportunities * Mentorship and support * Ongoing job-specific training and opportunities for professional development * A positive and inclusive work environment Our diversity statement MLT Aikins is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building an inclusive and diverse work environment.
