Build and lead VPX’s compliance program, including regulatory reporting, AML controls, conflict management, privacy oversight, and compliance with its recognition order. Oversee market integrity and surveillance, assess and certify contracts and rule changes, review marketing, and work with engineers to embed compliance requirements into the exchange.
About VPX The Vancouver Prediction Exchange (VPX) is a Canadian prediction exchange. People trade YES and NO shares on real-world events, from Bank of Canada rate decisions to the BC election, through a real limit order book. We're working toward becoming Canada's first licensed and regulated prediction exchange. A regulated exchange needs a compliance function that runs every day, so we're hiring someone to build it and lead it. The role You'll be the Chief Compliance Officer of VPX as a recognized exchange, and VPX's first compliance hire, with a direct line to the board. As the business grows, the role will grow with it. What you'll do - Build the compliance program from scratch and run it: policies and procedures, the compliance manual, risk assessments and testing. - Monitor compliance, escalate breaches to the CEO, and deliver an annual compliance report to the board. - Keep the exchange in line with the terms of its recognition order, including the certifications we file with regulators before each new contract or rule change. - Identify and manage conflicts of interest across the business. - Be our day-to-day contact with regulators: filings, reporting, compliance reviews and responses to new guidance. - Serve as our AML compliance officer: design KYC, AML/ATF and sanctions controls under the PCMLTFA and report to FINTRAC. - Own market integrity: listing and resolution standards, insider trading and manipulation rules, trade surveillance, and how we investigate reports. We already publish an integrity policy. You'll make it ready for a regulator. - Decide which questions can be listed, where, and on what terms. - Review our marketing so we never advertise a product we can't yet offer. - Oversee privacy (PIPEDA, BC PIPA, Quebec Law 25) and jurisdiction controls, including the residence checks that govern which users and trading bots can reach third-party venues like Polymarket and Kalshi. - Work directly with the engineers who build the matching engine, so the rules are built into the product. Requirements - A member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia. - Either at least 5 years at an investment dealer or registered adviser, including at least 3 in compliance or supervision, or at least 3 years providing professional services to the securities industry, including at least 12 months in compliance or supervision at an investment dealer or registered adviser. - You have passed, or are ready to pass, the Chief Compliance Officer Exam. - A clean regulatory, disciplinary, criminal and financial history. Your background will be reviewed by securities regulators. - Experience running a compliance program as a CCO or deputy CCO: policies and procedures, monitoring, escalation and the annual compliance report to the board. - Experience running market surveillance: real-time trade monitoring and investigating disorderly trading, manipulation and market abuse. - Experience assessing whether listed contracts can be manipulated, and certifying contracts and rule changes to a securities regulator. - Experience identifying and managing conflicts of interest at a marketplace or registered firm. - Hands-on AML experience under the PCMLTFA, including FINTRAC reporting. What we offer - Base salary of CA$140,000 to CA$180,000, plus meaningful equity. - A founding-team role with real say over the company's direction. - Hybrid work in Vancouver. How to apply Apply on LinkedIn with your CV and a short note on how you would set up compliance for a real-money prediction exchange. VPX is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of every background and will provide accommodations during hiring on request.
