This is an opportunity to take meaningful carriage of files, work directly with clients, develop litigation strategy and advocacy skills, while working in a flexible, remote-first practice. JSU LAW is a boutique litigation firm practising in Nova Scotia and Ontario. In addition to acting directly for businesses and individuals, we provide litigation support to other lawyers and law firms who engage us as litigation counsel, co-counsel, or for discrete litigation assignments. The result is a varied practice involving interesting clients, sophisticated legal issues, and work across multiple jurisdictions. While we’re based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, we operate as a fully remote firm. We are a law practice that emphasizes professionalism, practicality, and balance. We work hard when our files require it, but we do not believe unnecessary time online or rigid hours make for better lawyers. We care about excellent work, responsiveness to clients, and meeting commitments, while allowing for substantial flexibility for where and how you work. Location: We are based in Halifax and are therefore particularly interested in candidates located in Nova Scotia. Halifax/HRM-area lawyers can work fully remotely or use a flexible optional hybrid arrangement. We also welcome applications from strong Ontario-based candidates, for whom the position can be fully remote. Ideal Candidate: Graduate of a recognized JD/LLB program; Licensed with the Law Society of Ontario and/or Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. Must be willing and able to be called to the Ontario or Nova Scotia bar as needed for the role; 1-4 year post-call experience working in a law firm. Experience with corporate and commercial litigation, injunctions, and real estate litigation is an asset; Excellent written and oral advocacy skills; Strong legal research and writing skills; Motivated self-starter, with the capacity to take on and manage work independently, and the ability to research issues and find answers to questions as they arise; Strong organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once; Analytical with very strong proofreading skills and attention to detail; Excellent written and verbal communication for a professional audience and setting; Client-service oriented; Familiarity with the Ontario and Nova Scotia Rules of Civil Procedure, and Ontario and Nova Scotia court practice directions is an asset.
