Notably, the BCF Patent team boasts patent professionals qualified to represent clients in the U.S., Europe and Canada, maximizing their patent potential in multiple jurisdictions and providing a “one-stop shop” for patent and design protection. Our team members have extensive experience working in-house in the telecommunications, information technology, medical devices, biotechnology, machinery and aerospace industries, enabling them to deliver business-centric IP advice. Our clients range from start-ups, scale-ups through to large corporations. About The Role And Responsibilities As a lawyer and patent agent, you will work closely with several partners and other professionals on the team on strategic projects involving intellectual property, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies. Specifically, you will be responsible for: Conducting intellectual property risk assessments and supporting the development of strategies aligned with clients’ business objectives; Advising clients on the protection, use and commercialization of their intellectual property assets; Assisting with the drafting, prosecution and management of patent portfolios in Canada, the United States and internationally; Conducting freedom-to-operate, validity and infringement analyses, and preparing legal and strategic opinions; Collaborating with inventors, engineers, researchers and leadership teams in complex technical environments; Working on matters involving emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, software and telecommunications; Helping maintain trusted client relationships and supporting the growth of the practice. The position can be based in Montreal with possibility for hybrid remote working arrangements. Notwithstanding where you will be physically located, the role will entail being an integrated part of the Patent team. Your Profile Law degree, attorney in good standing with a license to practice; 5 to 8 years of experience in a law firm or a company; Canadian patent agent designation or U.S. patent agent designation, or eligibility to practice before the USPTO, is a significant asset; Knowledge or experience in the fields of artificial intelligence, software, telecommunications, or other advanced technologies; Knowledge of Russian is a major asset for certain international assignments.
